Keeping your home clean shouldn’t mean compromising on safety. Children are naturally curious and love to explore, which is why it’s so important to use and store laundry products carefully. Ariel products are safe when used as directed and kept in the right hands, but they must always be handled and stored with care, well away from little ones.
This guide walks you through how to use, store and dispose of Ariel products safely, where to find important safety information. It also explains why children shouldn’t be involved in handling laundry products, so you can keep your routine both effective and family friendly.

Storage
Keep Ariel products out of reach and out of sight: Store Ariel PODS® and other detergents high up, in a cool, dry place where children cannot see or reach them – for example, on a high shelf or in a locked cupboard.
Always use the original packaging: Keep Ariel products in their original containers with the label intact. This helps you follow the correct usage and safety instructions and ensures you’re using packaging that has been designed and tested with child safety in mind.
Close the pack every time: After each use, immediately close the Ariel SECURECLIC® box or PODS® pouch fully (until you hear or feel it click) and put it straight back into its usual safe storage place. Never leave packaging open or “just resting” on the side.
Don’t decant into other containers: Never transfer Ariel PODS® or any detergent into decorative tins, glass jars, food containers or unlabelled boxes. They may not be child‑safe and could be mistaken for food or sweets.
During Use
Read the label and follow the instructions: Follow all recommended product instructions and pay particularly close attention to all 'Caution', 'Warning', 'Danger', or 'Poison' statements.
Use dry hands and close packs promptly: To prevent capsule detergents such as Ariel PODS from dissolving before use, make sure to always close the package and handle with dry hands.
Clean up spills immediately: If any product is spilt, wipe it up straight away and dispose of it according to the label instructions. Then wash your hands thoroughly.
Wash your hands and tools: Be sure to wash your hands after doing laundry, as well as any tools you use to handle or measure products.
Keep children away from the laundry process: Aim to take care of laundry and other cleaning chores during your child's downtime (such as naptime), to help keep any distractions away while handling laundry or cleaning products, and avoid unintended exposure.
Disposal
Follow the on‑pack disposal instructions: Check the Ariel label for how best to dispose of any remaining product or empty packaging, and follow those instructions carefully.
Don’t reuse detergent containers: Never use empty detergent containers to store any other materials, especially anything intended for human consumption.
If an Incident Occurs
Unintended exposure with laundry products usually causes no serious medical effects.
If exposed to eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice, as needed.
If spilt on skin or clothing, remove soiled clothing and rinse skin well with water.
If swallowed, drink a glass of water or milk and contact NHS 111 service (111) or doctor immediately. Do not induce vomiting.
Follow these steps for a safe laundry routine. Know what to do before unintended exposure happens. For more information, visit Keep Caps From Kids and Cleanright.

Home safety tips for storing Ariel PODS®
Keeping washing capsules out of the reach of children can feel like a constant worry, but Ariel packaging is designed with safety in mind when used and stored correctly.
Our Ariel PODS® packs feature a special child‑impeding system that helps keep curious little hands away, while remaining easy for adults to open and close properly. The SECURECLIC® box, for example, has a unique “click” mechanism that:
Is designed to be easier for adults to open and close,
Keeps children’s hands away from the product
Gives a reassuring “click” so you know the box is properly closed.
Even with this child lock system, you should always:
Store all laundry products in a cool, dry place,
Keep them high up and out of sight, and
Never allow children to play with or handle the packaging.
By following these simple steps for storage, use, disposal and incident response, you can keep your laundry routine both effective and safe – helping to protect your family while enjoying beautifully clean clothes.
